A new Approach to Online Safety Education

If you’re up on the new trend in completing your OSHA 10, OSHA 30 and Hazwoper courses online, you have probably noticed there are a bunch of websites just thrown up. They all offer the same courses “Complete in your spare time.” Well did you know the majority of those sites are actually just resellers of the same company? Did you know that if you have any issues, their technical support is all manned by that one company; not the company you actually bought your course from?!

Well SafetyCertified has a new approach to online education. We have some of the county's top Safety Experts available to answer you questions. We actually have the son of the first Chairman of the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission (OSHA). We are there to help you know OSHA and Safety rules and regulations not just how to click through a course. And if you do have technical issues call us, and get us! Not someone in a call center halfway across the globe. Get people right here in the US that know US laws and regulations. Our goal at SafetyCertified is to be your complete source for all Safety and OSHA education needs. We like to think of ourselves as in the business of saving lives!

Ask the Expert

Q. My question is machine guard related. When using expanded metal for guarding (diamond shaped openings) how do you you measure the openings to determine the distance from the guard to the point of operation. At its widest point or at its narrowest point, bearing in mind that your trying to prevent finger exposure?

A. OSHA's Machine Guarding Standard has no actual distance mentioned in the standard to determine the distance from the guard to the point of operation. The Machine Guarding Standard says the following on point of operation. It is the area on a machine where work is actually performed upon the material being processed.

The point of operation of machines whose operation exposes an employee to injury, shall be guarded. The guarding device shall be in conformity with any appropriate standards or in the absence of applicable specific standards, shall be designed and constructed as to prevent the operator from having any part of his body in the danger zone during the operating cycle. Special hand tools for placing and removing material shall be to permit easy handling of material without the operator placing a hand in the danger zone.

Meet the Experts: Michael Cowman

Have you ever wondered the mind that heads up an organization like SafetyCertified? Well prepare yourself to meet Michael Cowman. I have to say by far the best CEO I have ever known!
Michael Cowman joined SafetyCertified in 2006 as CEO, bringing over 20 years of training and leadership experience. After graduating Iowa State University with a degree in Film & Television, Michael joined American Media—a leading corporate video training company. With his creative talents and vigorous energy, it didn’t take long for him to be promoted to Vice President of Production, where his video training work was acclaimed world-wide. He directed numerous best-selling training programs for prestigious clients including the U.S. Navy, Sears, Hilton, Wells Fargo, the U.S. Postal Service, and hundreds more. In 1999, Michael’s entrepreneurial spirit drove him to start his own video training company VisionPoint Training. For five years, he served as President and CEO at VisionPoint, which also proved to be a very successful company celebrated for its film production quality and award-winning content, including the mega blockbuster hit Whale Done! In 2004, Michael sold VisionPoint so he could “kick back and retire” at the young age of 42. But, after a few months on the beach, his business building mindset kicked in and he couldn’t resist jumping back into the training business—this time with online training. Michael’s experience in leading people, developing innovative training, and creating and executing a company’s vision is why he is passionate about growing SafetyCertified to become a first-class safety and technology company.
